I haven't been here in a while...Here's whats happened the past several months in my little self watering container greenhouse.

Broccoli: Was tasty, but yields where low to the point that I'm not sure if I'll try it again this year. Maybe, we'll see. No insects or disease.

Cabbage: Grew beautifully. The heads where firm and large. No insects or disease. If I have room I'll do it again, but they take up a lot of space for a low yield. They look nice growing though.

Carrots: Taste great, growth somewhat small and sloooow.

Peas: Awesome. Tall vines, no diseases or insects, lot's of peas. Planting double right now (October) for a winter harvest. Snap and Snow variety.

Bell Peppers / Anaheim Chilies: These would have been great I think if I had better watering practices. These were in 5 gallon buckets. The plants themselves grew awesome, but a lot of the fruit was deformed from uneven watering. in the last month of their production (September) 4 of the 6 plants started getting black spots under the leaves. I fought aphids, and I won. I'm attempting to overwinter these plants by cutting them back to a trunk with a few main branches.

Artichokes: I dug up some young artichoke plants from a friend that was moving and brought home enough spider mites to share with the zucchini and green beans, lovely. One never produced, but grow huge. The other was small and had a single little globe on it. I might try them again from seed since the plants actually grew well in the self watering containers.

Zucchini: Yield was high, but was cut short due to the spider mites. The plants are still producing now, but slower than before. I had to remove so many of the large leaves getting rid of spider mites that I think the plants got set back quite a bit. definitely growing them again.

Watermelon and Cantaloupe: Late start, and I knew it, but I got to see how well the plant did in the greenhouse and in a self watering container. I'll try them both again next year at a better time.

Tomatoes: Still harvesting the little red cherries and the yellow pears. No one seemed to enjoy the yellow pears as much as the cherries, so I'll leave them out next year.

Lemon: The Meyers I was given has been battling scale. It's mostly under control, but they just keep coming back, No real damage done. The disappointment of fruit dropping before it developed has been replaced by 20 or 30 green lemons about 3/4" long. Yeah!

All of the lettuces did great. harvest leaves only, not entire heads and a single lettuce plant will last several months with continuous regrowth.

I'll try to keep more up to date as things happen.
