Back to Part 1
The first real step is to gather the materials. I used the following items.
- 36" length of 8" Inside Diameter 1/2" wall PVC Pipe
- 9" stainless steel bowl with lip (you can use almost anything to cap the bottom)
- some chain capable of holding 60-80lbs
- strong rod or bolts to connect chain to pipe
- swivel to allow the hanging assembly to be rotated
- 1/2" stainless steel screws (to attach bowl to pipe end)
The following tools will make this easier:
- Skill saw to cut pipe ends squarely, if they are not already
- 2" Hole saw to cut holes for plants
- A sharpie for marking the holes
- Tape measure
- electric drill (for hole saw, pilot holes, and screws)
Please note: I used a stainless steal bowl to cap the bottom because that's what was available to me. I could have just as easily used anything else that I could screw to the bottom. I was about to cut a circle out of the lid of a 5g bucket but noticed the bowl and decided to use it.
